Marine Planning Partnership for the North Pacific Coast

  At our November 22, 2012 Club Meeting,

The Vancouver Pescaderos Dive Club declared itself in favour of the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems, including key dive sites in Northern Vancouver Island.

Whereas the Marine Planning Partnership (MaPP) is preparing recommendations for the future planning and protecting of marine resources in northern Vancouver Island

And whereas this region includes some of the best cold water dive sites on the planet. And whereas we have an opportunity to provide public input to this process at public meetings on November 29, 2012 or January 22, 2013. (tbc). 


It was moved that:

  • The Vancouver Pescaderos Dive Club declares itself in favor of the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems, including key dive sites in Northern Vancouver Island;


  • And that the Club urges the UCBC to take a leadership role in conveying the interests and concerns of divers to the Marine Area Protection Partnership at their next (and last) public meeting in Campbell River B.C. on 22 January, 2013.


  • The Club also urges our remarkable underwater photographers and videographers to create a short video for presentation to the commission at the meeting.


  •  Furthermore the Vancouver Pescaderos Dive Club request that efforts be made by the UCBC to solicit input from the North Island Econauts and other dive clubs, to be conveyed to the recreation, tourism and NGO representatives ahead of the January meeting and to the MAPP commission in person, in Campbell River at the meeting.
